Hong Kong's very own Shibuya || Back to top

When you only have less than 6 hours to stop over at Hong Kong, where would you go? I decided to fill my stomach with delicious Canton dishes and dessert before dedicating the remaining hours to Argyle Centre at Mongkok. Why so? coz my friends laughed at me for not stepping my foot in this much talked about shopping haven that is comparable to Far East Plaza in Singapore, MBK in Bangkok or Shibuya 109 in Tokyo. Plus they gave me the astonished look when they knew I have never tried the 'famous' HK$2.50 cold noodles despite me having travelled to Hong Kong for three times.

So I insisted to my travelling companions that I MUST go to Argyle Centre. When I stepped into the building, it was packed with teenagers and boy, we must have felt overaged. I immediately look around for the cold noodles kiosk and finally get to try it. Well, it was ok to my palatte but at least I tried it!

With less than 2 hours to shop in the mall, I managed to grab whatver I needed for our photo shoot and not forgetting some cute stuff for myself. Not tough to grab what you need there as they house most of the latest fashion trends and at very affordable prices. Check out our photos for some good buys we spotted.

By far the best bag design. I love TOTE! || Back to top

Why are women so obsessed with bags that they can scrimp and save for that very 'IT' bag of the moment? Never one bag is enough to suit for all ocassions, and never one bag that is enough to last throughout year nor the season.

Perhaps it's my job nature that I need to be on the run at times or that I just have too many things to carry that I simply don't fancy small hobos nor speedy. I have converted to a TOTE fan 3 years ago and there's no turning back ever since. No more overspilling or out of shape hobos or bowling bags. My tote is with me practically from Mondays to Sundays though most people only flash them on weekends.

Of course the downside of carrying a TOTE is that the contents just get more and the weight gets heavier. You knock over things at a packed personal care store, you accidentally hit someone shorter on the head, you have to fish for your newly bought packed of mints or tissues, but seriously who cares I just love my TOTE and it's hard to convert me.

Thank God, there are now so many designs and types to choose from, canvas, nylon, leather, and the best part is TOTE are usually more affordable than the other 'more stylish' designs.

Here are some new designs from some brands that I fancy. Do you want to get yours now too?

Tokyo SS 2010 Fashion Report || Back to top

BLOSSOM BLOOM

Spring is finally here! During our visit to Tokyo, we spotted many feminine flora printed dresses, top and skirts in Shibuya, Harajuku,Shinjuku and Ginza. The Japanese are so creative to recreate what seems to be a feminine style by matching their outfit with straw hats, denim jacket, shirt and boots to give it an edgier look.

NAUGHTY NAUTICAL

Nautical fashion is one of the hottest trends for Spring Summer 2010. Team up navy stripes with printed leggings and flirty dresses to give it a naughty look!

DEMURE DENIM

Inject a feminine touch in your denims. Wear a denim halter dress or corset over a white tee or trade your casual sandals for a lovely pair of denim wedges.

Getting around in Tokyo || Back to top

It is highly advisable to commute via trains in Tokyo as it is more cost and time effective. Get the SUICA card that is availabe at the airport. It is a prepaid card that costs 2000 yen with 500 yen as stored value. It can be use for major train lines.

Do print the maps of the train lines and bring it along for your trip as they do come in very handy. The 2 most frequently used train lines are JR and Metro.

For the JR line, Yamanote line is frequently used as it is linked to major shopping destinations like Shibuya and Harajuku. Locate the Hachiko exit upon reaching Shibuya to take you to the main street such as 109 that is just across teh road.

To get to Ginza, use the metro so you can alight at Ginza Metro station. From the main Shinjuku station, find the sign that says Metro Marunouchi Line, it is an underpassage way that takes you to the Metro line. At Ginza Metro Station, try exiting out f rom A or B to get to malls like Mitsukoshi, Matsuya. Chrome 1 at street Chuo Doriis where brands like Uniqlo, Abercrombie, H&M can be found.

Tips: Shinjuku is an idea place to stay in Tokyo as the Shinjuku station is linked to most major train and subway lines. Shinjuku also houses many malls and interesting shops like Isetan, Takashimaya, Lumine, Odakyu, Franc Franc, Tokyu Hands etc.

Have fun in Tokyo and don't forget to grab a copy of Good Luck Book at the airport. Very handy guide that lists all major tourist and shopping destinations with maps.

I can't live without my beauty essentials! || Back to top

TOP BEAUTY PICKS DISCLOSED

I am sharing with you my favourite beauty essentials in this post. Some of which are what I have been using religiously and some are great inventions that I've found in recent years. These are also essentially what I will bring along when I travel. Like any other woman, I love to test on new beauty products especially those that are highly raved in media and overseas. But over time, I have remained faithful to only a handful. Here is the list of my top favourites:

Cosmetics
1. ZA two way whitening compact powder (I have been using ZA for the longest time since I started experimenting with make up. I had tried on so many compact powders with bigger names such as Clinique, Presciptive, Lancome, or the more affordable ones like Kose, Loreal etc etc but none has delivered the ideal results that I get from ZA. After more than 5 years, I am still a fan.

2. Majolica cosmetics (blusher, eye liner pencil, mascara, lip gloss)
First started using this brand when a friend gave me the lash lenghtening mascara from when she returned from her Japan trip and I was hooked ever since! It is waterproof so no raccoon eyes after long hours and you will still look pretty after a long flight. Who needs false lashes when you have majo mascara. I was so attracted by the brand that I started experimenting more with their cosmetics range. The blusher has a very natural tinge of brownish pink that is ideal for fair skin Asians. I also particularly adore their lip gloss that smells so good and make your lips so juicy and plump and not forgetting it is pretty lasting.

3. Legere BB Cream
BB cream has been the rage since the last 2 years especially with the growing popularity of K-dramas and K-pop. Now people are looking more and more towards Korea for their beauty fixes. Gone are the days when you try to look for the perfect liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer. The in thing now is choosing the right all-in-one multi-purpose BB cream. There are so many brands to choose from with some promising benefits like anti-ageing, pores minimizing, advance sun protection blah blah blah. I was a little bit skeptical when I first tried on BB cream as I found the texture too oily and was afraid that my face would get into a massive breakout. Tried on a couple of brands and my favourite is this all in one BB cream from Legere. The trick in using BB cream is a little goes a long way, so blend blend blend. This amazing invention even helps to even skin tones and conceal blemishes and dark circles. Yes I even use it under my eyes to conceal my dark rings. I have gotten quite a few compliments on how good and radiant my skin looks so now the secret is revealed here.

4. The Face Shop Shea Butter Lip Care Cream
This intensive lip care is highly moisturizing and smells delicious.Perfect for cold and dry climate.

Make-up Remover
1. DHC Deep Cleanisng Oil
Just try it. I am not going to bore you with how good it is as you must have already read it in media. I used to remove my make up using cleansing milk but it often took me at least 4 cotton pads dabbed in cleansing milk to completely remove all traces of make up. DHC is by far the best cleansing oil I had tried on and after using it in just one pump, my make up is removed effortlessly. I will rate it way above its close competitors like Fancl and Shu Uemura.

2. Removing water proof mascara can be a torture especially if your mascara really lives up to their promise. Without a good remover, you risk losing some of your precious lashes that may or may not ever grow back again! No other brand is able to remove my stubborn majo mascara except for Loreal and please remember to choose the one for WATEERPROOF eye make up. Cheap and Good! Dab it on your cotton pad and and pad it over your lashes for at least 10 seconds before swiping it off. Repeat it for at least 3 times and your lashes would be completely clean.

Skin care
1. DHC Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Set
This amazing set helps minimize the appearance of wrinkles thanks to absorptive, antioxidant-rich platinum and silver nanocolloids. The set comprises of:

Step 1. Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Lotion
This is a toner that refines your complexion by tightening the appearance of pores while prepping your skin for softness. Enriched with moisture-retaining hyaluronic acid, brightening mulberry extract and calming loquat extract, its light liquid formula leaves your face feeling supple, never sticky.

Step 2. Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Milky Essence
It helps to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and age spots. Hydrating botanicals and coenzyme Q10 in this silky serum help maintain younger-looking skin.

Step 3. Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Cream
You can layer this cream after using the mily essence. It is an intensive yet surprisingly light moisturizer that minimizes fines lines and spots.

I love this set coz it comes in a travel-friendly trial pack size. Improvement is apparent for me the very next day after my first try. My face actually felt tighter and more supple.

2. The Body Shop Elderflower Eye Gel
If you are looking for a solution to reduce fines lines around the eyes, this is not the right product for you. This product is only great for soothing tired and puffy lines and it's non greasy so it will not cause irritating unpleasant milias.

Shower Essentials
When it comes to travelling, I will always grab some travel size essentials from The Body Shop. Good size and nice scent, keeps me happy after a tired day of sight seeing and shopping.
1. The Body Shop travel size honey Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner
2. Olive shower gel (my all time favourite. Love the scent!)

Hair
1. Lucido-l Hair Wax - Swing Loose
This hair wax is ideal if you wish to achieve light natural-looking curls. It is non greasy and provides moderate control.

Hope this helps! Beauty products that actually work may not necessarily burn a hole in your pocket. Cheers :)
