Yummy Japanese Curry! || Back to top

We tried on Japanese curry rice last week, not once but twice and consecutively on Friday and Saturday. You must be wondering if it's really so amazingly tasty, read on for our verdict and go and try it to judge for yourself.

My First Encounter with the Gorilla

I first noticed GO GO CURRY when I first went to Food Republic at 313 Somerset few weeks ago and why would I notice it? Coz I was freaked out by this gigantic gorilla (apparently its mascot) that stood near the escalator. He waved at me and tried to lead me to their store but of course I didn't as I was still pissed by the shock. That wasn't a pleasant first encounter. Sitting from afar while enjoying my kimchi soup, I couldn't help but notice the crowd that was forming at its queue and also that irritating energetic gorilla that was dancing away while driving crowd in. Maybe I just do not fancy big mascots.

First Try
Getting a seat at a food joint or restaurant on a Friday night in Orchard is terribly frustrating. Singaporeans are still pretty more into food than shopping judging at the numerous numbers of queues formed outside restaurants as compared to quiet shops with bored sales assistants. After walking for a good 20 minutes feeling famished, tired and impatient (I decided not to sucuumb to the queues coz why should I be wasting my precious time on a Fri night just to queue up for a meal unless the food is awesome). A hungry woman is indeed an angry woman. I gave up on restaurants and headed to the floor with food court.

I walked past this small eatery with a very energetic staff giving away flyers and beckoning for people to try their food. I stood opposite the stall and I swear I was quite a distance away but somehow he could notice me staring at the stall or rather he could notice my "very hungry can't get a seat elsewhere" look. He walked over to hand me the flyer and started to share with me their promo. The moment I saw the gorilla face on the flyer, I was like "okay, it's you again". I wasn't paying much attention to what he was saying but decided to give it a shot since I was to hungry to walk further.

I ordered a pork katsu healthy set (ironically the smallest serving eventhough I was hungry as I was skeptical as how tasty can it be as it must be simply just a fried pork cutlet with the usual Japanese curry). And why on earth would they even call it "Healthy" when its fried stuff and curry with high sodium content.

When my order was served, I was kinda shocked to find the curry darker than the usual but nevermind that I was too hungry to even care if its overcooked or what. I took my first mouthful of rice with the gravy, hmmmm not bad, it has a very rich meaty curry taste unlike most Japanese curries. The pork katsu was fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. Not too oily to my liking. Before I knew it, I had had polished off the whole casserole in less than 15 minutes. Not bad, just the right serving to leave me yearning for more, perhaps another time, I told myself coz it's always better to yearn for more than to overstuff yourself.

The Challenge
Before I knew it, I was challenged to try on the Grand Slam the very next day. So here I was at 313 Food Republic but the gorilla was nowhere in sight. I thought I could have taken a picture of him. The Grand Slam consist of pork and chicken katsu, one shrimp, two small sausages and one hard boiled egg + a free topping (and we chose the chicken katsu). This time round it took us almost half an hour to finish (not quite with a bit of leftover) the serving. In fact, after twenty minutes into it, I almost gave up and we had to push it to each other to finish off the last bit of katsu each claiming that we had our 'fair share' already. This time, I found the curry a bit too salty. The katsu is still great but not the sausage as it was way too salty. When we had finally finished our challenge, we vowed never to have curry at least Japanese curry) for the next few months!

I will still recommend you to try it if you haven't and be prepared to down lotsa water after the meal!

Fashion Wonderland || Back to top

If you have already watched Tim Burton's latest movie, Alice in Wonderland, you probably have been inspired by their colourful costumes. The movie did not really live up to my expecations but perhaps the costumes did. It was overall a colourful and whimsical movie and certainly more friendly for kids below the age of 12. A little bit twisted adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic but I guess not twisted enough to excite me. If there's any reason why I am catching this movie, it's all because of Johnny Depp. At the end of the movie, the only lingering impression I got from it was Mia Wasikowska's dresses that are so stylishly nice enough to wear for your next function, her lovely curly locks, and oh she had bad dark circles around her eyes due to the movie plot as she constantly had recurring dreams....And who knows, red head may also be in again.

What to wear in Tokyo???

Check weather: 2 April to 7 April 2010
Source: http://www.weather.com
Average: 7°C - 18° (cool….)

Now what to wear in order not to over or under dress? The good and bad thing about Tokyo fashion is that there is no distinct style of the moment. It can range from any eclectic mix , cutesy mini skirts or shorts with coloured leggings to street wear with British or American influenced rock punk. The key is mix and match and layering with style and of course confidence to carry off what is on you.

At the moment, Japan is in the midst of a low-price fashion boom. Like any cosmopolitan cities, high street and mass brands like Forever21, H&M, Topshop, Zara and Abercrombie & Fitch are enjoying their success in Tokyo. Of course not forgetting their home grown popular brands like Uniqlo, As know as and Muji.
So, aren’t you relieved most labels are also easily accessible in town and you can’t go wrong wearing them in Tokyo. All it takes is your flair in mix and match and not forgetting a lovely pair of shoes. No one fashionista would be spotted wearing the same pair of shoes throughout the whole trip. Remember, travel in style. Since you would be on foot most of the time, I don’t suggest torturing yourself in that 3 inch killer heels but perhaps low heeled ankle boots or stylish sneekers which would look perfectly nice with colourful leggings. Ladies, strictly no flip flops or sandals coz this is not Bangkok!

Here is a glimpse of some Tokyo Fashion Scene. Get Inspired, Get In Style.

How to reduce Cellulite??? || Back to top

What Is Cellulite?

Cellulite is a term used to describe the dimpled appearance of skin caused by fat deposits that are just below the surface of the skin. It generally appears on skin in the abdomen, lower limbs, and pelvic region. This is one of the most common problems face by women especially when we mature and the skin gets thinner, or after child birth or even due to a lack of physical activity.

How do we get rid of Cellulite?

1. DETOX. This means eating lots of fruits and leafy greens. Make them organic when possible.

2. CUT DOWN on sodium especially junk food, soda, processed food and saturated fats such as butter and animal fats.

3. Avoid toxins like excessive alcohol and cigarettes.

4. Drink a lot of water to hydrate your body and flush out toxins. Eight to ten glasses a day are recommended.

5. Brush and massage your skin daily. This simple technique stimulates blood and lymph flow, removes dead skin cells and encourages new cell growth.

6.Wearing compression garments that can mirco massage your body to improve blood circulation.
